Howard Kirk

It is hard to believe that Howard Kirk only started painting spring of 2001.

His brush strokes show an experience so much more beyond that.

Maybe that’s because he has been living, breathing, and surfing waves long before he ever painted one.

Howard grew up in Huntington Beach, CA surfing all of Southern California’s breaks from Santa Cruz all the way down to Baja, Mexico.

He now resides in San Clemente, a new and emerging art community that is becoming known for passionate surf art.

“If you really take a good look at one of Howard’s paintings you get a sense that every brush stroke is intentional yet instinctual. That is what makes him so good.”

This painting is very dear to Howard’s heart, it is of his friend Jeff Munson and his wife at Puerto Escondido, the "Mexican Pipeline".

Not too long after, Jeff broke his back surfing at this exact same break and was paralyzed from the waist down. This is Howard’s Tribute to Jeff’s ongoing recovery.

Howard Kirk is known for having meaning behind every painting. It’s not just any wave; it’s a particular wave that happened on a particular day.
