San Clemente's Only Private Club
Pacific Golf and Country Club is the only Private San Clemente Golf Course. It was designed by Gary Player and Named after the three British courses where he won his three British Open Championships.
The club has three nine hole courses that are played in three eighteen hole combinations. These link style courses, built in a canyon among the San Clemente Hills, are named Muirfield, Royal Lytham, and Carnoustie.
There are no trees on the course but heavy brush lines the sides of the fairway. In order to get between the tees and greens you must navigate the natural terrain which is unstable and quite rough around the edges – a hike or golf?
Due to the canyon and hills the holes either play downhill or uphill. Many sand bunkers are in the course design and most the tees are elevated, requiring many blind approach shots.
You will find you need to play one or two clubs longer than normal. The course is not very long but the uphill shots and the wind are contributing factors.
The favorite of most golfers who have played here is hole #9 on the Muirfield Course. This is a 574-yard, par 5, which requires a blind tee shot to a downhill slope, then a carefully-placed second shot to position yourself in front of a stream that flows in front of the green.
