… San Clemente State Beach has the most Recreational Activities
Of all the California State Beach Parks,
San Clemente State Beach
and its neighbor San Onofre State Beach have the warmest water and the most ocean dominated recreational activities.
Our family is local to the area and we use these facilities all the time.
San Clemente State Beach allows campers as well as day users to access the beach from two trails that cut through two scenic ravines of sandstone cliffs.
The trail head starts at the day use parking area. San Clemente State Beach is a water enthusiast dream. Between
surfing
, body boarding, snorkeling, body surfing, and swimming; it’s hard to choose how to spend your days.
Experienced surfers will get the most out of the half mile walk south down the beach to the world famous surfing beach
Trestles
Beginners will be better off sticking to the rides directly in front of the State Beach Camping ground. The water safety staff is awesome.
You’ll often see lifeguard supervisor Michael Brousard out there on the beaches.
Be sure to tell him the San-Clemente-Beaches.com family says “hi”. He supervised this year’s
polar plunge
, held every January 1st to celebrate the first swim of the year. Fishing is allowed in the park as long as anglers 16 and over can provide a license. During season, in high tide, grunion can be caught (only by hand) when they come ashore to lay their eggs in the sand. Surf-Fishing enthusiasts catch bass, croaker, corvine and barred perch. Hiking is limited to the Nature Trail and the Butterfly Trail on the edge of the park. During the summer park staff conducts campfire programs, junior ranger programs and guided hikes. Check Event schedules posted around the park for times.
